Access, Security Flaws

State Auditor Les Merritt says the governor's Information Technology Services division, which works to keep the state's computer networks secure, needs to do more to protect its own systems.

An audit Merritt released Wednesday found that too many employees have access to the division's computer center and to closets that house wiring for computer networks.

The audit also said the division had other problems with controlling access to computer systems, but did not disclose them in the audit for security purposes. Auditors sent a separate, confidential letter to the division outlining those problems.

The division responded that it would correct the flaws cited in the audit.
